Brownsville, Letter 1

Image
Sister Clarke is serving in the Brownsville 1 ward. From the quick Google Hangout chat today, we learned that it takes one hour to travel from one end of the ward to another. Brownsville has 950 members on the lists and only 150 are active. The area hasn't had any baptisms for quite a while. She says that she has a lot of work to do. She and her trainer are the only sisters assigned to the ward. She is using both her English and her Spanish to communicate with people out there, as she is literally next to the border. She sees the border fence every day. She also says that she has never seen so many cats and dogs in her entire life. (Hahaha! I remember all those stray dogs!!) Sister Clarke sounds very happy--but super busy this week. She is very eager to work hard. Here's the email she sent out. It's a short email. I guess that means that she's busy and losing herself in the work, right?  ________________________________________________________________________________...

Rachelle reading her dad's MTC journals. I love this picture because I have so many of these same pictures from when she was a toddler and used to sneak books into her bed. My heart! Hola family and friends! Today is going to be SO BUSY because we are leaving to McAllen  on MONDAY !!!!!!!! So today is SO busy trying to pack and mend and write letters and send packages and get everything ready, so emails are probably going to be very short today. I am including some pictures of some of my favorite murals from the MTC here. I just love the story of the Widow's Mite, and these murals have touched my heart so much.  The Mural of the Widow The Widow's Mite The Widow's Mite I also love the story of Moses. He is one of my favorite Old Testament prophets, so I am including this mural of the parting of the Red Sea because I love to look at it and think about Moses and his calling to serve the Savior. 5th P-Day at the MTC

Hola Familia y Amigos!!! This week went by so fast I don’t even know what happened! Most of it  is more of the same. We have laughed and smiled, taught and felt the  Spirit so much this week. I truly feel myself so privileged to be here  doing the Lord’s work. Today is our 1-month anniversary - exactly one month ago we joined the  Lord’s missionary army! I can’t believe that one month is already gone  away.  We are officially old MTC missionaries - and I’m not sure how  that happened because I feel like such a baby!  But I am loving life  here at the MTC.  The people around me are so amazing, we are all a  huge family. I feel like we were all best friends in heaven, and we  knew we would all be privileged to join the Lord’s missionary army  together at the same time, and so this is actually just one big family  reunion. 😁 It is truly amazing to me because most of us were actually  supposed to be at other MTCs (D...

From Left to Right: Sister Clifford & Sister Clarke. Sister Gregory. Sister ???. (Rachelle loves her, though!) Hola Familia y Amigos! Este semana fue muy bueno!  You aprendiendo mucho espanol y ensenando muchos investigadores todo el tiempo!  Me encanta eso mucho.  Lo siento por mi mal espaniol, pero estoy mejorando mucho cada dia.  Just like always, I am loving it here at the MTC!   I can't believe it is P-day again, it feels like yesterday was Saturday!  We are now officially the oldest missionaries in our zone, and I can't believe it.  I feel like such a baby!  I love being here at the MTC because small miracles happen every day here.  It's amazing to see how the Lord blesses His missionaries and helps them to become who He needs them to be. Rachelle in front with all the other new missionaries in her zone behind her. One of the new sisters she ran into was her old Relief Society President from her BYU Helaman H...
